Manuela Albir: I talked about truth by feeling and how the strong emotions we feel (like a broken heart) are just as real as any truth perceived by other means. A broken heart is something that one can only experience after having truly loved someone. The loss and pain that one feels is undeniably present. I showed a video (below) which supports my claim by displaying doctors' medical opinions on Broken Heart Syndrome. According to them, a person who has a broken heart and a person who has a heart attack have similar symptoms. Both experience severe pain in the chest. However, in examining both hearts, doctors see no signs of trauma on the broken heart. They explain how emotions can effectively portray a person's state of mind.

In a way, my project can be related to Locke's philosophy on truth. Locke reflected heavily on the question: where do our ideas come from?. He suggests that ideas are simply a combinateion of sensations that are then reflected upon and made into ideas. In other words, Locke argues that 1) there is nothing in the mind except what was first in the senses and that 2) the mind, instead of passively receiving information, reflects on those initial feelings to formulate ideas in the brain. With the video, I hope to show how feelings (like a broken heart) can be an influential part in a person's life.
